Sports at Withern

Sport at St Margaret’s is a very important part of the curriculum. Despite the school’s small size, we successfully compete against much bigger schools within the Skegness Sports Partnership.

In school, pupils have access to two PE sessions weekly which are delivered by specialist sports coaches from JB Sports. In addition, for two half terms a year, all children in our school have a weekly swimming lesson at the Meridian in Louth.

Every term, we offer at least two sports clubs after school, for example football, volleyball, tennis, golf, multi-skills, cricket and running.

We are also pleased to welcome our new school sports ambassadors. Five children in Year 5 attended a workshop in November along with other local schools in order to prepare them for increasing the profile of sport and P.E. in our school.

Gold Mark Award:

We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2018/19 academic year. The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfill criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year. We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport.

We look forward to applying once again in 2020!

New Trim Trail

In May 2019, St. Margaret’s Primary School had a new trim trail erected on the school field. The low level wooden trim trail has a range of items including balance beams, a wobble bridge and stepping stones to help promote balance, coordination and agility, encouraging all children to be active during break times and lunch times.

A huge thank you to the PTA for funding half of the cost of the new and exciting trim trail.
