Sports at Withern

Sport at St Margaret’s is a very important part of the curriculum and clubs at the school. Despite the school’s small size we successfully compete against much bigger schools in our local cluster. St Margaret’s recently won the local schools cross country tournament held at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Alford and also won the local school’s hockey tournament (with our two teams finishing first and second!) as well as winning a local schools basketball competition at Tennyson High school. Both girls and boys football teams were runners up in local football leagues.

In school the children do ‘Activate’ activities every day and all the school goes swimming at the pool in Louth every Wednesday throughout the year and take part in an annual swimming galas at Skegness and Louth. We are fortunate to have specialist PE instructors from Skegness Grammar School and the John Spendluffe Technology College come to take PE sessions every week as well as a sports specialist who comes from Monk’s Dyke Secondary School. In addition to this we hold lots of different sport’s clubs such as Hockey, Football, Tag Rugby, Golf and Cricket. We also recently hosted our own version of the Olympic Games and sent children to London and Manchester to see the Olympic and Paralympics Games

Due to the school’s success in sports we were awarded the highly regarded Gold Kitemark for achievement in school games in September 2014.
